The C3 Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, is proud to announce that its Executive Chairman, Derek Haskell Jr, is applying pressure to the Los Angeles Community College District (LACC) to establish a department dedicated to connecting its students to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). LACC is the largest community college district in the nation, serving nearly 900 square miles of Los Angeles County, with nine accredited colleges, over 200,000 student enrollments, and an annual budget of $5.8 billion. However, despite its size and resources, LACC does not currently have a department that connects its students to HBCUs. As part of the C3 Foundation’s Parker Grant Program, which aims to level the playing field of higher education, Derek Haskell Jr is relentless in his pursuit to establish this department at LACC. Mr. Haskell is an HBCU extremist who believes that these institutions play a critical role in producing successful professionals and positively impacting their communities. Research has shown that HBCUs have a proven track record of producing high-quality graduates who excel in various fields. For example, HBCUs produce nearly 50% of all African American public school teachers and engineers, and they are responsible for producing 80% of all African American judges and 50% of all African American lawyers. Despite their success, HBCUs face financial challenges that may hinder students’ ability to attend and complete their education. By establishing a department dedicated to connecting LACC students to HBCUs, we can help bridge this gap and provide opportunities for students who may not have access to financial resources to pursue higher education. Mr. Haskell’s advocacy for the establishment of this department highlights the importance of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. We believe that this initiative would benefit LACC students and enhance the institution’s reputation as a leader in promoting diversity. In conclusion, the C3 Foundation is proud to have Mr. Haskell’s support in our efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. We hope that LACC will recognize the importance of establishing a department dedicated to connecting its students to HBCUs and will take the necessary steps to make this a reality
